White is for Witching

White is for Witching is a gothic novel that defies easy categorisation. Oyeyemi weaves together themes of race, migration, mythology and the supernatural in a narrative narrated inter-generationally. A house named Witching, built by a white widow in Dover, becomes a character in its own right and reflects the psychological hauntings of its inhabitants. The protagonist?s twin sister returns home, bringing with her a sickness of the mind and body, and the house begins to respond. At its heart, the book asks what it means to belong, what history we carry in the walls of a home, and whether one can ever run away from one?s inheritance.
